Historic 149-Year-Old Simi Winery Acquired by Wine Brand Revival Expert

A California wine company has made headlines by acquiring the historic Simi Winery, a brand with a rich history dating back to 1876. This transaction marks a significant movement within the wine market, especially after the winery changed ownership just seven months prior.

WarRoom Cellars, the new owner, specializes in revitalizing legacy wine brands. According to President Andrew Nelson, the acquisition is part of their strategy to enhance growth and relevance in the market, enabling Simi to reach contemporary consumers while honoring its storied past.

The Simi Winery, located in Healdsburg, was previously owned by The Wine Group, one of the country’s largest wine producers, which acquired it from Constellation Brands in a major sale involving multiple wineries and brands earlier in 2025.

The Wine Group’s CEO, John Sutton, expressed confidence in WarRoom’s ability to steer Simi towards future success, noting the strategic alignment of their portfolio with long-term objectives.

Simi Winery is one of the few California wine brands that has continuously operated since the 19th century, successfully navigating challenges like Prohibition by pivoting to bulk and sacramental wine sales. Under its new ownership, WarRoom’s Nicole Walsh will oversee winemaking, bringing fresh insights to the celebrated label.

This acquisition continues WarRoom Cellars’ trend of securing heritage brands, which began with Lapis Luna in 2018 and has expanded to include several others across California’s winemaking regions.
