Pirouette Cafe & Wine Shop Shuts Its Doors After Struggling to Thrive in Ballston

The owners of Pirouette Cafe & Wine Shop, a small wine bar and restaurant in Ballston, have announced they will be closing after struggling with rising operational costs and declining sales. Their last day of service is set for Saturday, October 18.

Jackie and Philippe Loustaunau, the cafe’s owners, communicated their decision through social media, expressing their heartbreak over the closure. They noted that the economic climate had significantly impacted their business, stating: “Neither the bank nor the landlord is willing to give us a break, and we have exhausted our personal finances.” The couple admitted they felt hopeful about the business until the past three months, during which they experienced a sharp decline in revenue, losing many regular customers.

Operational challenges stemming from increased tariffs, inflation, and vendor delivery fees forced them to lay off several staff members. Their establishment was known for vibrant wine tastings and live music, and their executive chef, Adam Hoffa, had been recognized as “Best Chef” in Arlington Magazine’s "Best of Arlington 2025."

Despite the impending closure, the Loustaunaus expressed gratitude to their patrons and staff, highlighting that some team members will continue pursuing careers in the wine industry. They plan to serve wines and small plates until the last day, while reflecting on their journey and the community that supported them. The couple’s vision may come to an end, but they remain optimistic about what the future may hold.
