Napa Valley Wine Producer Acquired by Grape Growers Emphasizing Terroir and Sense of Place

Chris Lehoux, January 17, 2026

One of the standout producers in Napa Valley, Accendo Estate, has recently changed ownership, being acquired by grape growers Jack Bittner, Giancarlo Bettinelli, and Paul Goldberg. This vineyard, known for its high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon, has a unique history that adds to its allure.

The vineyard, previously named Thorevilos, gained notoriety under the stewardship of legendary winemakers David Abreu and Ric Forman. In 2019, Jack Bittner took over the property and transformed it into Ecotone Vineyard, creating a haven for exploring extensive variations in wine production. With a background of 33 harvests in the Napa Valley, Bittner aimed to delve deeper into the intricacies of wine-making, drawing on his experiences and relationships built throughout his career.

The unexpected opportunity to purchase Accendo Estate came as a surprise to Bittner and his partners. The Araujo family, who had established Accendo’s reputation with their renowned Eisele Vineyard Cabernet, sought new stewards who understood the importance of the vineyard’s heritage and partnerships with other local growers. This connection allowed Bittner and his partners to leap into ownership, finalizing the acquisition with remarkable speed thanks to the trust built over time.

While Bittner may not be the traditional farmer of the group, his passion and eagerness to learn make him a suitable steward for this notable vineyard. His journey has been marked by decisions to take on various roles in the wine industry, cultivating a deep appreciation for the land and its potential.

Accendo Estate now carries three primary wines in its portfolio, continuing with winemaker Nigel Kinsman at the helm. The wines reflect the commitment to quality and sustainability that has become a hallmark of the Napa Valley.

  1. 2023 Accendo Sauvignon Blanc – A blend with notes of lemon curd, citrus blossom, and minerality, showcasing a balance of juicy fruit and crisp acidity.

  2. 2022 Accendo “Laurea” Red Wine – Aged Cabernet Sauvignon blended with Petit Verdot, offering flavors of blueberry and blackberry with nuanced complexities.

  3. 2022 Accendo Cabernet Sauvignon – A blend primarily from prestigious vineyards, presenting aromas of gravel, fruit, and elegant tannins that culminate in a memorable finish.

As Accendo Estate embarks on this new chapter, it represents the intertwining of passion, ambition, and a deep-rooted respect for Napa’s rich winemaking heritage.
