Despite the overall decline in the U.S. wine market, Zhao hopes Cora will inspire others in the industry to appreciate the local offerings.

Opening a restaurant in New York is fraught with challenges, and Cora was no exception to the hardships of supply chain issues and bureaucratic delays. Despite these obstacles, Zhao regards fellow local restaurants not as competitors but as partners in creating a thriving dining scene.

As of early 2025, New York State has over a thousand wine bars, with a significant concentration in New York City. Zhao and her team are currently focused on establishing Cora as a staple in the West Village rather than pursuing immediate expansion. "For the immediate future, we’re just focused on offering the best food, beverage, and hospitality we can," she states, underlining a commitment to enriching the community one experience at a time.
