Join the Fun: New Wine Run 5K Features Scenic Vineyard Course and Post-Race Celebrations!

Chris Lehoux, July 23, 2025

SUTTONS BAY, MI – Shady Lane Cellars, a picturesque winery on the Leelanau Peninsula, is set to host its inaugural Wine Run 5K on August 10. With a start time of 10 a.m., participants will enjoy a scenic run or walk through the vineyard, culminating in a festive post-race gathering with wine and celebratory swag.

The winery, known for its beautiful location along the Leelanau Trail and its commitment to sustainable practices, offers a stunning outdoor garden and fieldstone tasting room. The event is open to everyone, including pets, fostering a sense of community while allowing people to experience the winery’s charm.

Angela Turner, the events coordinator, shared that many staff members are avid local race participants, making the decision to host this event a fitting addition to the winery’s repertoire. The 5K will feature a two-lap cross-country course, starting at 10 a.m. after gates open at 9 a.m. Runners can expect official chip-timing and published results post-race, while the tasting room will welcome visitors starting at noon.

Race registration includes a variety of perks: a race T-shirt, a collapsible and portable commemorative wine glass, a finisher’s medal, a race bib, and a pour of wine.

Those looking to savor some wine while visiting can look forward to unique selections. The winery’s general manager and executive winemaker, Kasey Wierzba, highlights exciting new offerings like:

  • Golden Hour: A Pinot Gris with a delightful nose of wild strawberries and wildflowers.
  • Pathfinder Pet Nat: An effervescent Muscat-based wine with creamy bubbles, perfect for summer picnics or gatherings with friends.
