Cheers to Unity: Highlights from the 2025 New York Wine Experience Grand Tasting

More than 265 vintners gathered at the New York Marriott Marquis on October 16 for the opening night of the annual New York Wine Experience, hosted by Wine Spectator. This eagerly awaited event took place despite a decline in U.S. wine sales, showcasing the enduring passion for wine.

Wine enthusiasts lined up early outside the venue, eager to taste wines rated 90 points or higher by Wine Spectator editors. This year’s event featured an impressive selection, with over 90 wines scoring 95 points or more, making it a memorable exploration of high-quality wines.

Attendees experienced a vibrant atmosphere filled with various wine pours, from Champagne to Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Jen Beloz, estate director at Napa’s Faust, exclaimed, "This is my very first Wine Experience… it has been so incredible."

Guests navigated the offerings with various strategies, some meticulously planned while others opted for spontaneous exploration. Notable selections included Taittinger’s 2013 Comtes de Champagne and some exceptional Italian Franciacorta, among a diverse range of white wines, red wines, and everything in between.

Carmelo Anthony, alongside co-founder Asani Swann, poured his white Châteauneuf-du-Pape, eclipsing the barriers between celebrities, chefs, and wine lovers, emphasizing the unity that wine brings.

This Grand Tasting not only featured celebrated wines but also afforded guests the unique opportunity to meet winemakers and representatives, enabling meaningful interactions. Connections were formed as industry leaders tasted each other’s works, emphasizing the shared love for winemaking.

The event culminated in a spirit of exploration and camaraderie, illustrating how wine transcends boundaries and brings people together. Featured wines included the Wine of the Year from 2024, among other celebrated selections, reinforcing the event’s appeal in the wine community.
