Savor the Essence of Central Otago: Discover RUA’s Signature Wine Collection

Chris Lehoux, December 1, 2025

RUA Pinot Noir perfectly embodies the vibrant spirit of Central Otago, making it an ideal choice for summer enjoyment. This wine features bright red fruit characteristics, a hint of spice, and a smooth finish, making it approachable and delightful for any occasion, such as barbecues or family gatherings during the holidays.

As one of New Zealand’s most recognized wines, RUA owes its popularity to its exceptional quality, offering a taste that many similarly acclaimed Central Otago Pinot Noirs do not, especially at a more accessible price point. Mora Wines’ general manager, Kathryn Pettit, emphasizes that RUA’s reliability and consistent quality are key factors to its appeal.

Summer is the perfect time for enjoying RUA Pinot Noir, which has flavors of plum and black cherry, paired with a structure that maintains freshness and balance. The RUA brand has a rich history rooted in the Skeggs family, who established Mora Wines in Bannockburn in 1995. The name RUA, meaning "two" in te reo Māori, reflects the dual forces inherent in their vineyards, like the contrast of hot days and cool nights.

Central Otago benefits from ideal growing conditions, with plenty of sunshine and cool evenings that allow grapes to ripen while maintaining their vigor and structure. With 90 hectares across the Pisa and Bannockburn subregions, the winemaking team consistently crafts a Pinot Noir that captures the essence of each area.

Winemaker Sarah Adamson shares that working with various vineyards enables them to blend unique flavors into their wines, producing RUA Pinot Noir that balances richness with lively fruitiness. Sustainability is also a core principle at Mora, guided by vineyard manager Cat Maclachlan. Their environmentally friendly practices include organic farming techniques that focus on enhancing soil health and fruit quality.

Beyond Pinot Noir, the RUA brand extends to Rosé and Pinot Gris, with each wine showcasing its distinct personality. For those unable to visit Central Otago, RUA wines can bring a taste of the region to any setting.
