Trinchero Set to Acquire Mumm Napa from Pernod Ricard: What This Means for the Wine Industry

Chris Lehoux, December 17, 2025

Trinchero Family Wine & Spirits has made a move to expand its footprint in the sparkling wine market by agreeing to acquire Mumm Napa from Pernod Ricard. While the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, this acquisition is significant as it allows Trinchero to deepen its involvement in a category that has been relatively underrepresented in its portfolio. Trinchero CEO Bob Torkelson indicated that he anticipates the deal to close in early 2026.

Mumm Napa, located in Yountville, produces a variety of wines, with around 334,000 cases produced last year and retail prices ranging from $20 to over $100. Torkelson expressed confidence in maintaining the established winemaking processes at Mumm Napa, affirming that existing contracts with grape-growing partners will be honored. He stressed that the sparkling wine category has potential for growth, stating, "There’s still some life around [the sparkling wine] category that we think can be added to our portfolio."

Mumm Napa is a prominent name in American sparkling wines, ranking third in the segment by volume, following Korbel and Chandon. Although the brand’s production has slightly declined from its peak of 410,000 cases in 2021, this has been attributed to Pernod Ricard’s divestiture from much of its U.S. wine business. Torkelson noted Trinchero’s optimism towards the category and the potential for developing products that resonate with consumers.

The acquisition of Mumm Napa will complement Trinchero’s extensive portfolio, which includes well-known labels like Sutter Home and Ménage à Trois, alongside premium selections such as Quattro Theory. Trinchero is also active in the spirits industry with brands like Tres Agaves Tequila.
