Vinography Unboxed: Highlights from the Week of March 1, 2026 Chris Lehoux, March 9, 2026 Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of Vinography Unboxed, where I share my experiences with some recent wine samples I’ve had the pleasure of tasting. This week, I’m excited to recommend a couple of wines from Starfield Vineyards located in El Dorado County. Their Viognier and Mourvèdre showcase higher-elevation expressions of these Rhône varietals, with the Mourvèdre standing out for its rich dark fruit profile. I also received three bottles of Rosato from Masseria Li Veli, a renowned estate in Puglia, Italy. Salento, a lesser-known region, produces some of my favorite rosés. Among the three, my top pick is the Susamaniello, crafted from an obscure grape variety of the same name. If you encounter any Salento rosé, go ahead; it’s likely to be a delightful choice. From Pali Wine Co., I sampled two single-vineyard wines featuring a richer style tempered by cooler climate influences, which keep their alcohol levels in check. Dutton-Goldfield sent over some current releases that did not disappoint. Their two single-vineyard Pinot Noirs offer juiciness and age-worthiness, while their Morelli Lane Zinfandel provides a delightful ethereal drinking experience. For Syrah enthusiasts, I recommend the offering from Kizor Family Cellars. This small project emphasizes Riesling and Syrah, with their Syrah displaying a savory complexity that suggests it would benefit from some time in the bottle.
