Soaring High: How to Enjoy Free Wine Flights at These WA Airports and What You Need to Know

Chris Lehoux, May 4, 2026

You can now bring home wine for free from select Washington airports, thanks to Southwest Airlines’ new Sip and Ship program. This service allows travelers departing from nearly 20 airports in Washington, California, Idaho, and Oregon to check one case of wine—up to 12 bottles—without paying the usual checked bag fees, which generally amount to $45 per person.

The program, launched recently as Southwest expanded its services to wine country airports, is designed to provide convenience for passengers looking to transport wine from their favorite destinations. To qualify, participants must be 21 or older, travel domestically, and ensure their wine is packaged appropriately in leak-proof containers. The total weight of the wine case should not exceed 50 pounds and must fit within Southwest’s standard baggage dimensions.

The participating airports in Washington include Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Spokane International Airport. Other cities involved are Portland and Boise, along with several California locations like Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Additionally, Alaska Airlines also offers a similar benefit for its Atmos Rewards members through its Wine Flies Free program, allowing passengers to check wine at no charge from several Washington airports, including Yakima. Those who qualify can enjoy a complimentary wine tasting at specific wineries in the state as well.
