Harmony Wine Walk: A Successful Fundraiser for the Local Library Chris Lehoux, June 10, 2024 HARMONY — Cool drinks, a light breeze, and summer sunshine graced the sold-out Harmony Wine Walk on Saturday, June 8, marking it a successful fundraiser for the Zelienople Area Public Library. Featuring 14 alcohol vendors and numerous other booths offering food and various items, event coordinator Bekah Regan anticipated a fun and friendly evening throughout the historic town. “The town of Harmony is really lovely to walk around, I think that’s the allure,” she commented, noting that they sold 450 tickets for the event. “And it’s all for the library, I think that’s a big draw for people.” Regan reported that they raised approximately $19,000 during the eighth annual event. Groups of people mingled together, exploring the towns streets in search of the boozy booths. The walk is a yearly outing for sisters Stephanie Gordon, of Harmony, and Heather Tatton, of Pittsburgh, who confessed they arrived to the event later than expected. “We actually bought the extended tickets, but forgot to come early,” Gordon laughed. “We both said, ‘It’s OK, it’s a donation.’” Both said they were happy to support Zelienople’s library. “We’re huge readers,” Tatton mentioned. “It’s a great idea, I hope it helps raise a lot of money. It’s such a cute town.” Vickie Dellaquila, from Jackson Township, shared that she and her friends belong to a local wine club, and were enthusiastic about participating in the walk as a group. “I would say we’re kind of connoisseurs,” she stated. “We gather to sample wines and cheese monthly while our husbands engage in poker.” Donna Weston, who was also in the group, expressed her excitement about being part of the event. “I’m a frequent visitor at the library, so I feel it’s a good thing to contribute to them,” she mentioned. Stacie Schneider, from Zelienople, expressed her enthusiasm for supporting the library as her nephew frequently participates in their programs. “My sister has an 18-month-old who is really into all the books and activities they offer, so I’m glad to support it,” she explained. She also mentioned that she was impressed by a jalapeno wine she tasted. “I came last year,” she said of the walk. “It’s just a great selection, lots of vendors.” Overall, Regan said the fundraiser does just as much for the borough as it does for the library. “Our goal is to sell out tickets and have a good time, and introduce people to the town of Harmony,” she said.
