CHS Wine + Food: Celebrating the Heart of Our Culinary Community

Chris Lehoux, February 3, 2025

As the Charleston Wine + Food Festival gears up for its 20th anniversary, the event continues to celebrate its significant contributions to the culinary landscape of Charleston. This year, it has proudly raised over half a million dollars for culinary scholarships and charitable initiatives, underscoring its role in fostering the next generation of culinary talent.

Founded in 2005 by community leaders, the festival has helped shape Charleston’s culinary reputation both nationally and internationally. With its mission rooted in enhancing connections through food, the organization behind the festival has distributed $540,000 in scholarships and has initiated a program benefiting 1,000 high school culinary arts students. This program offers mentorship and real-world experiences, allowing students to work alongside established chefs at the festival.

The event not only helps train future culinary professionals but also stimulates the local economy. The festival has a noted economic impact of $170 million, attracting both locals and tourists who are eager to dive deeper into Charleston’s culinary scene.

Echoing its influence, numerous renowned chefs and culinary leaders have participated in the festival, and many have chosen to settle in Charleston, opening new restaurants and enhancing the city’s gastronomic offerings. Notable establishments like Vivian Howard’s Lenoir and Michael Toscano’s Le Farfalle have their roots tied to the festival.

In addition, the festival serves as a launching pad for new culinary ventures in Charleston, enabling local chefs to debut their concepts and expand the city’s dining diversity. This mixture of scholarship initiative, economic growth, and culinary celebration all converges to uphold Charleston’s status as a top culinary destination.

Tickets for this year’s festival, scheduled for March 5-9, are currently available at Charleston Wine + Food.
