Savoring the Blend: GrantLOVE and J Vineyards Collaborate for LOVE Wine Supporting Women Artists Chris Lehoux, February 9, 2025 When Alexandra Grant founded the nonprofit grantLOVE in 2008, her goal was to uplift artists who have historically been undervalued in American culture by providing them with necessary resources, production support, and direct stipends to continue their creative work. In 2012, she trademarked her distinctive LOVE symbol, which has since become integral to various products, including jewelry, apparel, home goods, and limited-edition prints. Proceeds from these sales fund the grantLOVE initiative. Recently, grantLOVE partnered with the Pledgeling Foundation to enhance donor transparency and broaden the program’s reach. A recent endeavor between grantLOVE and J Vineyards & Winery has resulted in LOVE Wine, aimed at supporting emerging female-identified artists. From the onset of her project, Grant sought out a woman-led vineyard for collaboration that would align with her vision of nurturing creativity. She found an ideal partner in Nicole Hitchcock, the Estate Director and Head Winemaker at J Vineyards, who is renowned for her sparkling wines that rival even those from Champagne. The collaboration resulted in LOVE Wine, where each new bottling features a label designed by a female artist, converting the act of enjoying wine into an experience that intertwines art and vineyards. The inaugural release—a brut cuvée—offers a blend chosen collaboratively by Hitchcock and Grant, with the label created by Genevieve Gaignard, an artist recognized for her work that explores themes of class, race, and cultural identity. In a time marked by uncertainty, the partnership between Grant, Hitchcock, and Gaignard symbolizes a harmonious blend of wine and art, creating a support system for marginalized female-identified artists. Grant elaborated on the evolution of this initiative, noting the serendipitous alignment of their values and curiosity about both the wine industry and the art world. She emphasized the importance of this collaboration in centering individuals and gathering them around shared values, particularly amid chaos. Available for purchase at J Vineyards’ tasting room in Healdsburg, California, as well as online, LOVE Wine retails for $50, with one-third of the profits dedicated to supporting women in the arts.
