Bid on Exclusivity: Rare Wines from Martine Saunier’s Private Cellar at Auction

Chris Lehoux, March 8, 2025

On March 8, wine enthusiasts have the opportunity to participate in a remarkable auction featuring rare bottles from the personal cellar of the late Martine Saunier, a celebrated wine importer and filmmaker who passed away last month. This auction, organized by Acker, a renowned New York wine shop and auction house, includes over 165 lots and will take place both live and online.

The proceeds from the auction will support Doctors Without Borders and establish an educational endowment aimed at mentoring young women in the wine industry. This initiative will provide select recipients with an annual week-long education and tasting experience in Burgundy.

The auction is part of a larger event celebrating Burgundy wines, which coincides with the 25th anniversary of La Paulée in New York. The first part of the auction was held on March 6, while the second part, featuring the Saunier lots, begins at 10 a.m. ET on March 8.

Saunier was instrumental in promoting many legendary wine producers, and this auction showcases an impressive selection of mature bottles, including magnums from esteemed wineries like Henri Jayer, Château Rayas, Denis Mortet, and Domaine Leroy. The collection spans four decades, from 1962 to 2006, and features highlights such as multiple vintages of Jayer’s renowned Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux and Échézeaux.

John Kapon, chairman of Acker, expressed the significance of the auction, referring to it as a final chance to obtain wines curated by one of the industry’s most influential figures. He emphasized that while the day may evoke bittersweet emotions, the focus will be on celebrating Saunier’s life and her exceptional wines.

The bidding event will occur at Acker’s New York office, but participants can also join from anywhere in the world through Acker’s website or app.
