Planning Commission Approves Beer and Wine Service at A Little Moore Cafe

The revived A Little Moore Cafe in Encinitas has recently received approval from the Planning Commission to serve beer and wine, enhancing its offerings and helping secure its future. The cafe, which reopened in February under new ownership, is situated at the corner of Highway 101 and Daphne Street and focuses on breakfast and lunch, featuring American comfort food with unique twists.

The new owners, Jennifer Winter and her partners, emphasized the importance of preserving the cafe’s legacy. Winter shared her personal connection to the establishment, noting its significance in the community. The newly acquired liquor license permits alcohol sales starting at 7 a.m., allowing patrons to enjoy mimosas with breakfast, and extends service until 11 p.m. indoors and 10 p.m. on the outdoor patio.

The original A Little Moore Cafe has been a beloved fixture in the area for 45 years before it closed in March 2023, following its landlord’s decision not to renew the lease. This closure came after the site was selected for a cannabis dispensary. Winter and her partners aim to maintain the cafe’s welcoming vibe while respecting the neighborhood, hoping to reduce any potential noise complaints and manage parking challenges.

As they move forward, the goal is to expand the menu, incorporating dinner service and a wider range of drinks, including handcrafted wine-based cocktails. The cafe features a nostalgic diner ambiance, complete with booths and countertop seating, along with the historic signage and decor from its previous incarnations.

The Planning Commission’s decision to grant the liquor license was met with positive responses, with some commissioners expressing fond memories of the original cafe. The cafe’s new chapter aims to honor that legacy while adapting to contemporary dining preferences.

For those interested in visiting, A Little Moore Cafe is located at 698 N. Coast Highway 101, open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Friday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
