New Golf Simulator Business in Naperville Seeks Approval to Serve Beer and Wine Chris Lehoux, May 17, 2025 Golf enthusiasts in Naperville will soon have a new spot to enjoy the game, albeit indoors. Clubhouse540, an upcoming golf simulator business located at 1466 Chicago Ave., is setting the stage for an exciting new experience. Recently gaining approval from the Naperville Liquor Commission, Clubhouse540 is looking to secure additional Class M recreational liquor licenses, allowing it to serve beer and wine during virtual rounds of golf. The establishment will fill a nearly 3,000-square-foot space that was previously occupied by Score 18 Indoor Golf. It will feature five golf simulators equipped with Full Swing technology, which is recognized as the official simulator of the PGA Tour. The general manager, Tom Schaefer, emphasizes the dual mission of the venture: to create a family-friendly environment where patrons can unwind and enjoy golfing in a relaxed setting. Schaefer has lived in Naperville for about a decade, bringing with him a long-standing passion for golf, despite never being formally trained. He and his partner, who also shares a passion for the sport, were inspired to create a unique hangout that would serve both local residents and visitors. They decided to develop their own concept rather than adopting a franchise model. Beyond golf, the state-of-the-art simulators will allow users to engage in various activities, such as basketball shooting, soccer, hockey, and even dodgeball against zombie targets. In addition to the simulated activities, Clubhouse540 will offer a menu of snacks and beverages—pending city approval for alcoholic options. As per city regulations, the number of Class M licenses is capped, requiring that at least 60% of revenue comes from non-alcoholic sales. Currently, Naperville has reached its limit for such licenses, which include establishments like bowling alleys and indoor sports facilities. Clubhouse540 plans to operate daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., with an expected opening date of July 1. Ambitiously, Schaefer and his partner are also eyeing expansion plans that include a second location in Greenville, South Carolina, and potentially more establishments based on demographic demand. As excitement builds for their Naperville debut, Schaefer expresses gratitude for the positive reception they have received thus far. "We’re just excited to be bringing this to Naperville," he stated, "and we really hope that Naperville is excited about what we deliver.
