New Dining Experience: Press Restaurant Welcomes Under-Study Next Door in Napa Valley

Chris Lehoux, May 29, 2025

In St. Helena, California, the team behind Grand Award-winning Press Restaurant has launched a new all-day café named Under-Study. This casual dining spot opened its doors on May 26, 2025, next to the newly established Museum of Art & Culture (the MAC). The café concept combines elements from various culinary influences, aiming to create a one-stop venue for pastries, quick lunches, and gourmet food items. Chef Philip Tessier has designed a menu that caters to different dining preferences, offering everything from coffee and pastries in the morning to small plates featuring whimsical dishes like lobster corn dogs topped with caviar in the afternoon.

The café’s modern design features bright pastel colors and a compact layout. It will also include a teaching kitchen, where culinary classes and events will be hosted. As part of its kick-off, Under-Study is offering a special three-course menu inspired by Julia Child, in sync with the current exhibition at the MAC.

The wine program curated by beverage director Tyler Potts emphasizes international selections, with about 100 bottles priced largely between $20 to $40, with some options at higher price points. This allows patrons to enjoy quality wines without the traditional restaurant markup.

In another development, chef Alexia Duchêne has opened her first solo restaurant, Le Chêne, in New York’s West Village on May 23, 2025. With a robust background in French cuisine, Duchêne has crafted a menu that marries classic French dishes with modern twists. The wine list at Le Chêne is extensive, featuring over 1,200 selections, primarily from France, alongside a notable collection from California and Italy.

As for the original Cathédrale restaurant in Las Vegas, it is set to close its doors on May 31 after a brief tenure in the Aria Resort & Casino, marking a significant shift in the culinary landscape of the area.
