Celebrity chef Tyler Florence, once an intern in Traverse City, is set to return to the area as the headlining star of the new Traverse City Food & Wine event from August 20 to 24. Before achieving fame as a popular Food Network host and restaurateur, Florence spent a transformative period working at the Grand Traverse Resort, where he fell in love with the natural beauty of Northern Michigan.

Reflecting on his experience, Florence recalls living in a farmhouse about a mile from the resort without a car, relying on friends for rides and often walking through heavy lake-effect snow. Despite this, he fondly remembers his time there, especially being captivated by the Northern Lights.

Now, after years of building a remarkable career that includes numerous cooking shows like "Tyler’s Ultimate" and stints on "The Great Food Truck Race," Florence is excited to return to Traverse City. The Food & Wine event promises an array of activities, including vineyard tours, outdoor cooking demonstrations, and a Grand Tasting at a prominent waterfront venue.

While some event tickets have already sold out, others remain available for purchase. Florence will host several notable events, including a live-fire cooking demonstration on August 22 showcasing summer classics like BBQ chicken, and a sold-out wine pairing dinner.
