The British Are Coming: Berry Bros. & Rudd Makes a Grand Entrance with First American Store Opening

Chris Lehoux, November 11, 2025

Berry Bros. & Rudd, one of the most renowned names in wine and spirits retail, has opened its first U.S. location in Washington, D.C. on November 4, 2025, situated at 888 17th Street NW. This historic London-based company, established 327 years ago, has long been a leader in the industry, known for its deep expertise and innovative spirit. BBR was among the first to establish an online store and has expanded its reach into Asia, with offices now in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tokyo.

The new Washington store aims to cater to American wine consumers, focusing on building personal relationships and creating an inviting shopping atmosphere. Jamie Ritchie, the managing director of international and auctions, will oversee the D.C. branch. He envisions a space that emphasizes the fun aspect of wine shopping, where customers can enjoy learning stories about the wines they consider. “Here most of the business will be private individuals, and so relationship-driven,” Ritchie mentioned during a recent discussion with Wine Spectator.

The D.C. store will feature a selection of 1,300 wines and spirits, with prices ranging from $20 up to a staggering $100,000 for a 1961 Château Lafite Rothschild jeroboam. It will also include a reserve room housing approximately 380 selections older than 2010 and around 30 older than 1990, in addition to BBR’s own branded wines known for excellent value and quality.

Furthermore, BBR will offer its Private Client Service, which includes personalized consultations, cellar-building guidance, curated tastings, and events. This service will also facilitate shipping within D.C., Florida, and New Hampshire, while clients in other locations can arrange for their purchases to be shipped or stored.

Looking ahead, Ritchie expressed hope for further expansion within the U.S., indicating that this is likely not the last BBR store to open in the country.
