Vinography Unboxed: Highlights and Discoveries from the Week of December 14, 2025

Chris Lehoux, December 22, 2025

This week’s wine tasting features several noteworthy samples, prominently showcasing offerings from Aia Vecchia and Kutch Winery. Aia Vecchia, established in 1996 in the beautiful Bolgheri region of Tuscany, presented an appealing 2024 Vermentino with floral and pear notes, rated around 8.5 and priced at $17. Their red blend, the 2023 "Lagone," which includes Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, impressed with its savory quality and was scored around 9 for its value at $20.

Kutch Winery’s 2024 Pinot Noir selections were particularly exceptional. Winemaker Jamie Kutch, celebrating two decades of crafting Pinot Noirs, showcased a range of single-vineyard wines. The 2024 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, aged in neutral French oak, scored between 9 and 9.5 and is expected to retail for $43. The "Bohan" Pinot Noir earned a score of 9.5 for its silky raspberry and redcurrant flavors, priced at $59.

In addition, the "Mindego Ridge" Pinot Noir from Santa Cruz Mountains displayed lovely balance and complexity, also scoring between 9 and 9.5, with a suggested price of $69. Lastly, the "Falstaff" Pinot Noir, noted for its bright acidity and cranberry notes, scored around 9.5.

The 2024 Post & Beam Pinot Noir from Far Niente presented a bright and playful character, scoring around 9 with a reasonable price tag of $37.

Wine enthusiasts can look forward to more detailed notes on these selections, as Kutch’s wines will be officially released in January 2026.
