Golden Steer Steakhouse: Bringing a Taste of the Vegas Strip to New York City

A renowned piece of the Las Vegas dining scene, the Golden Steer steakhouse, has made its way to New York City with a new location that opened on January 23, 2026. Nestled in the One Fifth Avenue building, just off Washington Square Park, this establishment replaces the former Otto Enoteca Pizzeria and Trattoria One Fifth, a past Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence winner.

The introduction of Golden Steer reflects the revival of traditional steakhouse culture in urban dining spaces. According to wine director Artem Raetckii, diners in New York are ready to return to large steaks, fine wines, and classic cocktails. “A way with small plates and tasting menus!” exclaimed Raetckii, emphasizing the shift back to hearty meals and warm service once limited to high-powered clientele.

Established in 1958, the Golden Steer has welcomed iconic figures like Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra in its Las Vegas location. The NYC branch is managed by Nick McMillan and Amanda Signorelli, who carries on her family’s legacy in the restaurant business.

Executive chef Brendan Scott, known for his prior work at establishments like Carne Mare and the now-closed Montrachet, curates a menu rich in nostalgic dishes. Guests can indulge in items such as oyster shooters, veal saltimbocca, and variety of steaks complemented by flavorful sides like brandy cream and gremolata. The dining experience also features flambéed desserts like bananas foster and cherries jubilee, prepared tableside.

The wine list boasts 285 selections, featuring classic staples like Champagne, California Cabernet, Burgundy, and Bordeaux. Standout bottles include a 1989 Château Calon-Ségur and a historic vertical selection from Bodegas Vega Sicilia. Raetckii expresses that it’s essential to feature wines that reflect authenticity, noting selections like Cathy Corison’s Cabernet Sauvignon and local gems from Long Island.

In addition to fine wines, the cocktail menu showcases unique options like Gibsons with housemade pickles and a refreshing gin fizz. The ambiance, redesigned by Modellus Novus, merges Art Deco aesthetics with Wild West themes, evident through the use of gold accents, curved banquette seating, and Western-inspired oil paintings.
