US Shines at the World’s Largest Wine Awards: A Record-Breaking Year

The results from the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards have been announced, revealing exciting developments in the global wine industry. This year’s competition saw an impressive participation of over 17,000 wines from 58 countries, judged by a panel of 245 experts over a rigorous two-week period in London.

France emerged triumphant, securing 254 top-tier medals—its best performance in the 23-year history of the awards. The Burgundy region stood out, earning more Best in Show medals than any other wine region globally. Italy followed closely with 144 medals, featuring award-winning wines from Tuscany, Piedmont, and others.

However, the United States set a remarkable record, showcasing its strongest ever performance at the Decanter awards. The US claimed two Best in Show awards, five Platinum, and 32 Gold medals. Notably, Texas celebrated a historic milestone with its first-ever Gold medals from the competition, featuring wines from various Texas Hill Country vineyards.

The UK also marked a record year, leading in magnum sparkling wine medals and receiving a total of 217 awards. In Essex, Pinot Noir wines gained attention, with predictions signaling them as potential future stars.

South America also basked in success, with Argentina earning its highest tally of top-tier medals, while Brazil celebrated significant wins in both Gold and Silver categories. Notably, countries like Japan and China reported their best performances ever, indicating a rapidly evolving global wine landscape.
