Roadblock in Plans to Demolish Walgreens and Build 7-Eleven Over Beer and Wine Sales Issues

KALAMAZOO, MI — The former Walgreens at 918 Riverview Drive, which offered a variety of convenience items including beer, wine, and liquor, has plans for demolition to make way for a new 7-Eleven/Speedway. However, this plan hit a snag when the Kalamazoo Zoning Board of Appeals voted 5-1 against allowing the new convenience store to sell alcohol at the same location during their meeting on March 13.

This decision raised concerns over the implications of introducing alcohol sales at the proposed location, which previously served the community as a convenience store for various products. With the demolition plans now uncertain, the future of this site remains in question as local officials deliberate on the best path forward.
