Grower Acquires Wine Brand to Thrive in Challenging Grape Market Chris Lehoux, May 14, 2025 In the midst of a challenging grape market, Kyle and Christina Cameron, both from agricultural backgrounds, have acquired Trecini Winery. This acquisition is a strategic move aimed at providing a stable outlet for their grape production while preserving the legacy of the winery established by the Vicini family. The Camerons, ages 28 and 32, signed the purchase contract on April 28, acquiring rights to the Trecini brand and its inventory from Cathy Vicini, who co-founded the winery in 2000 alongside her husband and son. Following the passing of John Vicini in March 2023, Cathy has collaborated closely with the Camerons to facilitate a seamless transition before her step-down on June 1. Retaining all Trecini employees, the Camerons plan to reopen the winery’s tasting room by 2026 and are negotiating lease terms for the Santa Rosa office and 12-acre vineyard. This decision aligns with Kyle Cameron’s vision as a seventh-generation farmer, possessing 150 acres in Russian River Valley and managing another 30 acres. The Camerons recognize that with expiring contracts from major producers, the direction taken will help bolster their business. Kyle stated, "We said, ‘Hey, let’s just buy a brand and put our fruit into our own brand.’" Currently, the winery produces approximately 15,000 cases a year, primarily distributed to about 80 grocery stores, mainly Safeway, across Sonoma and Marin counties. They aim to scale production to 50,000 cases within the next year. The Camerons’ venture complements their existing transportation business, Cameron & Company Trucking. As bulk wine prices have notably decreased, including Chardonnay, the Camerons seek a creative path amidst a tough market landscape. They continue to use custom-crush facilities for wine production, currently partnering with Orsi Family Vineyards and in discussions to consolidate production at Taft Street Winery. The small Trecini team, comprising seven members, is in the process of selecting a winemaker for the upcoming vintage. For the Camerons, this acquisition is also a matter of family legacy, as their one-year-old son, Clayton, symbolizes the next generation of their agricultural heritage in Sonoma County.
