Steric Secures $3.5 Million Seed Round to Revolutionize Support for the Wine and Spirits Industry

Culver City-based Steric, a company focused on beverage technology, has successfully secured $3.5 million in seed funding to enhance its innovative electromagnetic process that improves the flavor and consistency of wine and spirits without using additives or filtration. The funding round was led by a private equity group, bringing on board its manager, Dieter Gable, to join Steric’s board of directors.

Steric’s technology is designed to address critical challenges faced by beverage producers. It allows them to rescue flawed batches and maintain product consistency while enhancing premium offerings by improving flavor, aroma, and mouthfeel.

"Our goal has always been to enable producers of all sizes to create better products and achieve better margins," stated William Fay, CEO of Steric. He added that this funding will expand access to their technology, enabling distillers and wineries to solve production issues quickly, often within hours instead of months.

Chris Alvarez, a former senior director at Suntory Global Spirits and an advisor to Steric, noted that the company’s capabilities represent a revolutionary shift in improving both profit margins and product consistency for producers.

The new capital will support expanded manufacturing and deployment of Steric’s technology across North America and select international markets while enhancing initiatives that help clients establish target profiles for new products and ensure batch consistency. Additionally, it aims to advance Steric’s research and development, further broadening the applications of its patent-pending processes.

Steric’s approach, known as the Steric Process, employs an adjustable electromagnetic energy field to transform specific compounds in distilled spirits and wine, making it a scalable solution suitable for any production size. The company was recognized with the 2023 Innovation of the Year Award from the Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S. (DISCUS).
