Costco has issued a recall for nearly 1 million bottles of its popular Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG due to a serious safety concern: the glass bottles may shatter, posing a significant risk of laceration to consumers. This precautionary measure was taken as the holiday season approaches, after initial warnings were issued in late September regarding the potential for the bottles to break.

The recall affects specific bottles that feature the UPC 196633883742 and Item Number 1879870. The product is identified by its green glass container, accented with purple foil and a purple label that reads "Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG." These bottles were sold across several states including Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and others, between April and August 2025, with a typical retail price of around $8.

As of November 6, there have been reported instances of bottles breaking, including one injury linked to a broken bottle. Consumers are strongly advised to stop using these potentially dangerous bottles immediately. Those affected can return the bottles to Costco for a full refund.
