Despite being a scorching season, with over 40 days exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the previous winter’s rains—10% above average—provided essential moisture for the vines, allowing them to withstand the heat of summer. As a result, Napa enjoyed 13% more growing degree days than in 2023, culminating in a harvest that began in August and concluded rapidly in October, significantly influenced by an intense heat wave.

Tasting Through the Barrels

Reflecting the sun-kissed essence of Napa, the best wines of 2024 present a generous, juicy, and lush profile. Modern farming techniques have adapted to the extremes of climate, emphasizing leaf preservation for grapes rather than aggressive sun exposure.

Producers committed to quality crafted wines that maintained the right acidity balance, ensuring the fruit was not overly ripe. Although 2024 lacks the sharp edge of 2023, its wines are immensely pleasurable and accessible early on, inviting consumers to enjoy them sooner.

In summary, 2024 evokes traditional weather patterns, marking a classic year that aligns with Napa’s reputation as a premier wine region. Many wines are likely to be available as early as late 2026.
