Wine Experts Weigh In: Rory McIlroy’s Masters Champions Dinner Menu Choices

Chris Lehoux, April 9, 2026

Rory McIlroy, after 17 years of striving, won the Masters in 2025, achieving a career Grand Slam. As the reigning champion, he had the honor of planning the menu for the prestigious Masters Champions Dinner, an exclusive event for past winners held during Masters week. McIlroy’s menu was revealed in March 2026, but what garnered the most attention was the wine selection he made.

In his words, McIlroy expressed, "I wanted to be really intentional with the wines." He has developed a passion for wine collecting over the past decade and found joy in curating a list with the help of Augusta National’s sommeliers.

He selected four prominent bottles from Augusta National’s expansive wine cellar:

  1. 2015 Salon “S” Brut, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger Champagne – This champagne is highly esteemed, produced only in extraordinary years. Its singular focus on quality highlights McIlroy’s deep appreciation for fine wine.

  2. 2022 Domaine Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet, Burgundy – This wine represents the finesse of Burgundy and is noted for its texture and nuance. Wine experts regard this choice as a sign of McIlroy’s sophisticated palate.

  3. 1990 Château Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac – A legendary Bordeaux from a celebrated vintage, this was also the wine McIlroy enjoyed on the night of his previous Masters victory. It embodies both luxury and enduring quality.

  4. 1989 Château d’Yquem, Sauternes – Considered one of the finest dessert wines globally, this selection is known for its rich history and taste, often referred to as "liquid gold."

McIlroy’s choices not only reflect his personal taste but also an understanding of wine’s legacy. He aims to create memorable experiences, encapsulated beautifully by the range of wines spanning from the refreshing sparkle of the Salon to the decadent richness of the Yquem. Each selection serves to elevate the dining experience at this prestigious gathering, marking a significant moment in Masters history.
