Spring Wine Events: Exciting New Tastings from Pebble Beach to Half Moon Bay with a Stop in Saratoga!

Spring wine events are flourishing in California, reminding wine enthusiasts of the vibrant season ahead, especially after some challenging years. Although many events have been canceled and vineyards have closed, several major wine gatherings are set to take place.

One key event is the Pebble Beach Food & Wine, scheduled for April 9-12. It will feature a remarkable array of wineries from around the world, including renowned names from regions like Oregon, Portugal, and Italy. Attendees can also enjoy culinary creations from 40 top chefs. On March 29, the Santa Cruz Mountains Grand Tasting at Mountain Winery in Saratoga will allow attendees to explore wines from local producers amid beautiful scenery. VIP experiences will feature white wine and caviar, alongside artisanal cheese and charcuterie. A limited seminar focusing on Chardonnay will enhance the experience. Following this is the Half Moon Bay Wine & Jazz Festival on May 9, showcasing approximately 50 wineries along with jazz performances and local food vendors. Visitors can purchase wines directly from producers on-site. Tickets are available starting at $68 here.

Despite the excitement surrounding these events, the wine community recently faced some setbacks. Two iconic brands, Chalone and Talbott, announced their closures. Chalone’s products will still be available for a while at the Carmel Plaza tasting room, while Talbott’s tasting room shut down on March 22, leaving its future uncertain. These closures mark a significant loss for California’s winemaking landscape, highlighting the ongoing struggles within the industry.

On a positive note, Vino Locale in Palo Alto remains a beloved establishment, celebrating its 25th anniversary with a menu that showcases local wines and diverse culinary offerings, alongside regular live music engagements.
