The Allure of Ice Wine: A Festival That Captivates Visitors Year After Year

Chris Lehoux, March 24, 2026

For over two decades, local wineries in Northeast Ohio have been celebrating the arrival of spring with their Ice Wine Festival. This event offers a chance for wineries to promote their wines and provide a fun atmosphere to shake off winter’s chill.

Tony DeBevc, owner of Debonne Vineyard, spoke about the festival’s role in lifting spirits following the holiday season and the cold months of January and February, which tend to reduce family outings due to financial constraints and harsh weather. He sees the festival as an opportunity to gather friends and family for wine-tasting, food offerings, and relaxation.

At Laurello Vineyards, Jennifer Laurello highlighted unique offerings such as a Habanero-infused Vidal wine, which has drawn visitors from Cleveland. “We’ve had people from all over,” she mentioned, noting the event’s appeal to a broad audience.

The festival, running throughout March, is busiest on weekends, attracting guests from neighboring states and regions. Many participants opt for guided tours, often coming from as far as Pennsylvania, while others enjoy the convenience of shuttles from local hotels. The admission fee is minimal, providing a glass of wine and an appetizer from each winery.

Prominent wineries involved include Debonne Vineyards, Ferrante Winery, Grand River Cellars, and several others. Highlights this year included an ice wine enriched with coffee beans at CASK 307 and ice sculptures created live at Debonne, adding to the festive ambiance.

Despite the cold weather, many patrons took delight in outdoor tasting experiences. DeBevc noted some winter damage to grapes this year, but overall conditions are promising for the coming summer.

The festival not only showcases local wine but also fosters a sense of community and celebration, encouraging visitors to enjoy each winery’s distinctive offerings. This year’s event reflects a resurgence of interest and excitement for local wine culture as spring approaches.
